The Story behind the Service Initiative

Discover the "why" behind Mind Your Money. Learn about our founder Elizabeth King's journey, the mission, and valued partners. Mind Your Money is dedicated to empowering students with financial literacy, giving them the knowledge to make educated choices with their money.

Meet the Founder, Elizabeth King

My own journey to financial empowerment began when I started my involvement in the Miss Kentucky Organization at age 16. My parents encouraged me to self-fund my dream, empowering me to learn how to budget. I took on 5 jobs to pay for my own competition and wardrobe expenses and grew to learn the importance of money management firsthand!

Through this experience I discovered my passion for helping others unlock their financial potential. In 2023, I founded my service organization, Mind Your Money – Investing in Financial Literacy, to fill in the gap between subjects taught in school and skills needed for life!

While partnering with Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass, I've spoken to over 2,200 students about smart saving, spending, debt avoidance, and investing basics, taking “Mind Your Money” lessons to elementary, middle, high school, and college classrooms across Kentucky.

Currently serving as Miss Wayne County Area 2026, I will be competing for Miss Kentucky 2026. I've had the honor of serving as Kentucky Derby Festival Queen, University of Kentucky Homecoming Queen, Gatton College of Business & Economics Ambassador, Asset Management Intern at PNC Private Bank and Institutional Asset Management, Lead Intern at Alton Webb Commercial Real Estate, UK Wind Symphony Principal Flutist, and UK Endowment Portfolio Student Manager.

After graduating from the University of Kentucky in May 2026 with dual degrees in Finance and Flute Performance, I will start my career in wealth management as an Asset Management Analyst.
